Matcha Butter (Whipped Green Tea Butter)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 2 sticks / 227g
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • ½ cup powdered sugar 60g
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until it's creamy and smooth. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
  • Sift the matcha powder over the butter to remove any lumps. Continue to beat the mixture until the matcha is fully incorporated and the butter has a uniform green color.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar to the butter mixture. Beat on low speed at first to avoid a sugar cloud, then increase to medium speed until the sugar is fully combined and the butter is fluffy.
  • Add a pinch of salt and mix well to enhance the flavors.
  • Optional: transfer the matcha butter to a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Shape it into a log or any desired shape, then wrap it tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm. Once chilled, slice the matcha butter and serve on toast or muffins, or use it in your favorite baking recipes.

Notes

Prepping the Matcha: Sifting the matcha powder is crucial to avoid clumps in your butter. A fine-mesh sieve works perfectly for this.
Softened Butter: Make sure the butter is softened at room temperature to avoid clumps in the mixture. You can also use a fork or whisk if you do not have a hand or stand mixer.
